Melbourne is a great city to visit, with a culture that is enhanced by its leaning towards a sophistication that is enhance by arts, food and wine. In fact there are over 3000 restaurants in Melbourne. While Sydney has the harbour ferries that can be comfortably used to explore the greater harbour city, Melbourne has its famous trams. For a small cost you can ride the trams and see all the city has to offer - down to Brighton Beach - to the swank suburbs of Toorak and beyond. Staying in Melbourne is easy, with a great range of hotel accommodation options.
Here is some Melbourne tourist information.
What can be said about Melbourne's weather - other than it can be highly variable in a short period of time and unseasonal weather conditions can strike at any time of day or time of year! While the average daily maximum temperature in summer is 26 Celsius - it is not uncommon for the temperature to reach 40C. In winter the temperature averages around 14C, but can be considerably cooler. Rain falls throughout the year, with the midwinter months slightly drier.
The rule of thumb for your stay in Melbourne - never leave your hotel without rain protection if there is the remotest chance of rain and if warm, never assume it will stay that way all day unless it's the middle of a heatwave!

Melbourne has an integrated system of trains, trams and buses, known as The Met. The city is made up of three zones and ticket prices depend on the origin and destination.
Travel around Melbourne is easy via an excellent tram network. A link to timetables are included below in the Melbourne Tourist Resource Centre box. There is also a free tram that runs the circuit of the CBD at ten minute intervals. This is great for tourists wanting to travel from their hotel accommodation to another part of Melbourne CBD. Met tickets can be purchased from vending machines at train stations, on trams or buses, or pre-purchased at selected shops including newsagents. One ticket also allows you to travel on trams, trains and buses. Prepurchasing Met tickets is recommended as zones can be confusing and help in purchasing tickets on-board can be hard to find.
